Recently, I was sick enough to commit a “man foul” and go to the hospital. They took a look at me, told me I was dehydrated, gave me an IV, some drugs, and sent me on my way… This turned out to be a chronic problem, with many doctor visits following, in which I learned that there are many ailments doctors can’t fix.

“How much farther have we advanced in medicine since the days of trepanation?” I wondered as the doctor prepared the scope that would travel through my innards (thankfully I was about to pass out). Two scopings later there was nothing. To the doctor my insides looked healthy, so he diagnosed me with IBS, and gave me some drugs to “relax”, my stomach (and consequently the rest of me).

I’m really hoping by the time I’m 50 there will be a non-invasive colonoscopy but I might just have drilled a hole in my head anyway. It might even be medically fashionable.
