There should be some required class before you can get out of grade school where the attributes of someone that's going to be a drag on society and probably kill someone would be described and illustrated so everyone has at least a base line starting point in how to recognize and avoid them. If you're lacking a visual idea about this, consider the use of George W. Bush as a role model for this pariah. Like the lack of “Gay-dar”, the lack of being able to (as you say) sniff out a loser is one of the real down sides to life.
