World’s tallest building
I have two hobbies that I haven’t been keeping up with lately. One is going to the tops of tall skyscrapers, and the other is taking pictures of old abandoned industrial buildings.
I can tell you that the tallest building (37 floors) in Columbus Ohio has a pool table, and a great view of the river with it’s railroad bridges.
I never went into any old asylums or medical looking buildings because that is just plain creeeeeepy. With a capital C. Warehouses were definitely my favorite. They always had some great compositions, and were generally the worst for wear of all the building types. Nobody thinks to take care of warehouses.
Links for lovers of abandoned buildings:

- More great Russian abandoned buildings.
- abandoned buildings from all over, with some of the history behind each one.
- Old buildings in the Hudson Valley area.
- Japanese abandoned buildings.
- The art of going places you’re not supposed to be. With some excellent journals to go with the pictures.
- This list wouldn’t be complete without Detroit.

There is an old jailhouse in the city where I live — it’s quite dilapidated, with large flakes of paint peeling off the walls, riddled with graffiti. Though the place has been turned into a folk-art gallery, the new owners did not try to expunge its sinister cachet. I cannot think of a better rehabilitation for this ancient building.

A dilapidated jail house sounds quite creepy. If you have any picture you should post the link here, I’d love to see them. Espcecially how the artist inhabitants took it over. I love when that happens.

I don’t know about old jailhouses but old Warehouse usually have some cool either useable or breakable things in them that the company couldn’t get rid of. Ever tried to use two fire extinguishers to propel yourself on a wheel chair? Its Awesome

My husband use to live in Monterey Bay, CA in the dorms at the university there. I believe these buildings are on the school campus, not too sure and he isn’t awake atm for me to ask. But they are of an old military base.
