Ah, the softer side of fascism. Watch out when you’re swapping missiles with flighty third world countries. You might end up with a dirty bomb.

Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system.

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

(If I ignore the gayness, it’s pretty sweet)

And uh, we’ve apologized to Native Americans like a billion times, right? Isn’t there some holiday where people bitch about how badly we treated them? OH YEAH, Columbus Day.

    November 1st, 2007 at 8:01 am

Well you see, officially Columbus day is the celebration of Christopher Columbus “discovering” America, and officially congress has not ruled that we should call what happened to the Native Americans Genocide.

Officially Columbus discovered a vacant land, and happened to share it with some reddish brownish looking people who just happened to know a lot about this place.

So it can only be an apology if they call it genocide? There have been numerous apologies.

“yeah, sorry about that whole trail of tears thing there. Oh, by the way, we’re going to have to tax your sales now, we have that war to support after all. Lots more people to extort now that we’ve got you guys under control.”

Lets not steer too far away from the main topic. Which powerful world leader pitches, and which one catches? I mean, they’re both control freaks right?

“I truly do apologize to all of the few remaining Native Americans out there. I feel so bad for taking all of your land. So I will make it up to you! You may have all of this desert land, because it is totally useless, and feel free to call Oklahoma home also. But don’t think that we are going to actually give you Oklahoma, because your ass is gonna pay taxes on that land! Pfft… they think this land is free…!!!”

Yeah we have apologized. In the same way Nazi apologized for busting the gold teeth out of Jewish people’s mouths.

I love this strip btw. I never understood the whole thing about why we could abuse nuclear power and weapons, but certain countries get “inspected”, I mean demolished and completely striped of all their resources.

Seriously, I get scared and sick of seeing the nightly load of 10+ fully-loaded semi-trucks transporting radioactive material through my neighborhood. I say leave the splitting of atoms the hell alone.

On apologising - I do not see any value in apologising for the mistakes and/or atrocities of previous administrations. Admitting the error, that’s cool, but I do not believe that one can or should apologise for others’ mistakes.

Boy, do I understand about getting things out of your system! It’s a big relief.
As for the native americans, I think we’ve apologized enough. I say that because I live near one of their gambling casinos, and I’m afraid that was not my idea of a proper apology. Dirty bombs indeed!

  9. Jeremy
    November 1st, 2007 at 11:46 am

I dunno Keli. Casinos seems like a bum deal for destroying their people, culture, and threatening their ability to sustain themselves. Maybe when we get the troops out of Iraq we should plop down a few casinos and see how they feel about them.

@Dominic: It’s a tough call because none of us have personally abused Native Americans, or Enslaved blacks, but I’d guess that the people in congress and senate can trace their lineage back to some people who have. I think the best this current generation can do is look back, realize what a terrible thing it was and prevent it from happening again… *cough* Iraq *cough*.

    @Antion: Anytime :)

@Vanessa: That’s what happens when you pitch your tent down at area 51. I bet the real estate deal was too good to pass up. :)

Vanessa you’re an idiot. If you’ve never understood why some countries get inspected and aren’t ‘allowed’ to have nuclear weaons, then you need to do some studying.
One, from a legal standpoint, the Anti-Proliferation Treaty has become customary international law and the United Nations, of which all the countries that want to have nuclear weapons belong, has passed binding resolutions saying they can’t. Even China and Russia agreed to not letting Iran (for example) have nuclear weapons. You know how I know? Because it was passed in a Security Council Resolution which requires unanimity and China and Russia are in the Security Council.
Two, from a realistic standpoint, the countries that have them already are responsible enough to not use them. I’m not talking about WWII, but now, when we have bombs thousands of times more dangerous than the ones dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the countries that have them don’t use them, and the countries that want them would use them. The whole point of Iran (for example) getting nuclear weapons has two possible purposes: 1) to deter other countries from attacking them or placing sanctions on them because we think they would use nuclear weapons against us, and/or 2) to actually use them, to, oh say, “remove Israel from the map” (quote from Ahmadinejad) or hit New York or Berlin or Londor or……
So either way, we think they’re going to hit us with nuclear weapons. Now, if they got nuclear weapons, what would you propose? That we just acquiesce to their demands all the time out of fear they’re going to hit us? Do we attack them to take away their nuclear weapons? Do we sit around and do nothing because vanessa “never understood the whole thing about why we could abuse nuclear power and weapons, but certain countries get “inspected”?” And if we did do nothing, because hey, they’re allowed to have nuclear weapons, then what if we did get hit? People like vanessa would be the first fucking people crying about how the US government and the UN did nothing to prevent it. Like the people who cried about us not doing enough to prevent 9/11. Now they’re crying about us using intelligence gathering techniques like wiretapping to prevent another 9/11.
You don’t get to have your cake and eat it too. Sometimes security comes at the expense of someone else’s ability to have things that compromise your security, and if you don’t realize that you’re naive, ignorant, and need to put some thought into your posts that you put out for everyone to read.
    Have a great day.

@ Sophia: Please try to have a little tact. No one is going to be asked to understand everything about an issue on this website. No one can, and no one will. While we’re all entitled to our opinions I would prefer that you refrain from any personal attacks not made in jest.

This website exists to bring humor into our daily life, please do not forget that.

Here I feel the need to use a quote that was quite witty made by Stephanie only with a minor change..”because using personal attacks makes it true”.

I also find it interesting that Sophia mentioned sanctions as if she believes that those actually do anything. Thats the political equivalent to shaking a finger at a misbehaving child.

Look, eventually everyone who wants a nuclear weapon is going to have one, all it takes is the right connections and some money. The reason people don’t know what to do exactly when someone we fear acquires them is because this is something we’ve never really dealt with. This is going to be one of those live/die and learn things. Even if we take civil liberties of people in this country to try to counteract another “9/11″ that doesn’t ensure that we will be safe. All powers eventually fail and another will take over and the cycle continues until we’re all dead, get used to it. You may not like that we’ll lose the war but your responsibility is to make the decline of our lives as we know it today better for yourself and the people you love, not to hate someone who doesn’t see things the way you do.

Oh, I get it! We are like the world’s parents…right? Do as I say, not as I do!

Wow Sophia you are going to be a sucky ass parent! I feel for your children already.

BTW 9-11 is nothing compared to what we did to Japan, nor is it relevant. We have a very awesome defense system. Some know-it-all needs a history lesson!

The US government would like you to think it has your, and the world’s best interests at heart. Nothing could be further from the truth. Of all the most dangerous leaders in the world Bush is right up there.

  17. Jess
    November 7th, 2007 at 3:03 pm

I honestly don’t think Bush has as much to do with it as we give him credit for.

I don’t by any means support him or think him any less of an idiot but I think that he’s got a lot of people pulling his strings behind the curtain.

    @Sophia,

what you are saying is: “you can only post my opinion, otherwise you are an idiot”?

Then here is another opinion by another idiot:

The United Nations is about keeping the industrialised world in power.

Iran is not about proliferation, it’s about control of oil and gas, more specific about through which countries they have to be transported to get to the west.
Look at a map and then look at which country take (or don’t take) which actions.
Just look at how Poetin behaves towards Iran. He is delivering the means to create nuclear plants, and isn’t denying it. They will even deliver the plutonium.

the problem is, columbus is directly responsible for killing nearly every indian, for their gold, their land, and stature in society in europe. And because they were in control, they could distort all the facts, to lend justification to their actions. it happened in india with the british, africa and all the colonies…

history is written by those in control. it doesnt make it true. the indians didnt want money, or to speak english, or be a christian. yet every western movie depicts them as head scalpers, raiders and murderers.

example. Winston Churchill the military journalist who went on to become prime minister in england, claimed he escaped after being caught in south africa by boer freedom fighters and swam through the mighty apies river. using this in turn to improve his stature in england, by writing a book about it, which undoubtedly made him reach his political goal.

fact is. the apies river has never in recorded rainfall history been deep enough, anywhere in its entire length, to consider swimming through, you can merely walk through, the water maybe reaching your knees at the best of times.

locals still joke about this, yet you cannot disparage this claim, as he was a hero in englands eyes.

he went on to later contribute to the concentration camps in south africa, which is still hushed and ignored, which were just as bad as auchwitz, though not in number, of the deaths of 26000 women and children, which about 13000 were children.by the neglect as they claim of camp officials, but this is felt otherwise.

as children dying of glass in their scarce rations, their mothers filtering through the food with their fingers, cuts evident, as to feed their children. hooks being found ripping their insides.

    http://www.boer.co.za/boerwar/hellkamp.htm

as unsavoury as this is, it is fact, yet this truth of this is not recognised by england. their stance remaining ignorant.
this is not an attack on the english people, as many tried to bring this to light in england, namely

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Hobhouse

    and many other.
but the fact remains. ignorance is bliss. noone likes to talk about things like this. yes its easier to ignore. but it doesn’t make it untrue or any less real.

if some iraqi’s came to your country and took all you had, made you speak farsi, and convert to islam, wont you try to stop it? imagine how frustrated you’d feel if you were depicted as a murderer, for fighting for your land. history distorted to make their claim to your country fair, and in the end, water down all feelings of your claim to your country, by saying you couldnt manage it, and youre barbaric, and a heathen.

    See how you feel now.

    Greetings from south africa!

@Kuroneko Akira: Very well said, for some reason it was marked as spam. I have since corrected it. Thanks for this well informed view, I’d never heard about the concentration camps in south Africa until now. There is much to learn about.
