Baking with Feminism
I was raised and surrounded by strong women my entire life. I’ve never felt superior to any particular gender, and I’ve married a card carrying feminist… who really likes to bake and do things around the house. Sometimes I feel bad, like we’re not doing enough to liberate women from the male white corporate oppression, but all she wants to do is bake snacks and make coffee. I guess I’ll have to be ok with that.
“Hon, what do you say we go to the gentleman’s club with some tar and feathers?”
“I can’t, there’s banana bread in the oven, and I’m baking a quiche for dinner.”
“Oh, I guess liberation can wait until after dinner.”
“I’ve got a stitch and bitch after dinner, maybe we can go this weekend.”
“Never mind, I’ve got that retreat for the association of men who cry all weekend.”
and so it goes.

I’m all for equality of the sexes, but it’s a little tiring when you see the ultra-feminists get together and talk about creating a matriarchal society because “man has messed it up for the last 5000 years, so it’s time for women to take the lead”. I sometimes equate these extremist groups to terrorists, since they often talk about achieving their goals through less-than-non-violent means.
There will be equality of the genders within our lifetime, but it will involve the rest of the baby boomers retiring and leaving things to a younger generation that has grown up with both sexes being given the same opportunities. I’ll look forward to this just as much as many women, as my wife works incredibly hard but is paid only 80% of her male counterparts. If she were paid based on her actual value, the company would likely have to let her go, since a doubling of her salary would be “out of the question”
Only twenty years to go, right?
